The Catskill Fly Fishing Center and Museum will be holding its Annual Season Opener celebrations this Saturday April 7th, 2018 and your new Guild Secretary and Treasurer Nicole March and Nick Mango will be tying flies at the Catskill Fly Tyers Guild Table so stop on by and say Hello! We will also have Rendezvous sign up sheets available for anyone wishing to tie with us on April 14th!
Trout fishing season opens in New York State on Sunday, April 1,2018 and the traditional “First Cast” will kickoff at 7:00 a.m. at Junction Pool in Roscoe. Roscoe Rockland Chamber of Commerce hosts this annual celebration at the CFFCM’s Junction Pool property. First-timers and beginners are particularly welcomed.
CFFCM will be celebrating the 2018 Season Opening on Saturday, April 7, 2018 with a day full of activities, which are listed below:
SEASON OPENER CELEBRATION EVENTS ON SATURDAY APRIL 7
09:00 AM – “Come and Meet Your Maker” at a Catskill Cane Revival Demonstration at the Roscoe Central School in Roscoe. Try casting a classic cane rod or a new modern bamboo rod. Bring your own or try one out with Mike Canazon and the Bamboo Guys who will provide rods and offer skilled advice. Runs until 12:00 noon.
10:00 AM – Soups On! Enjoy warm soup and tasty treats made by Agnes Van Put in the Gift Shop at CFFCM. Take a pause from opening day casting and join in 101-year-old tradition. Till the soup runs out!
10:00 AM – “The Forged Fly” exhibit in the Wulff Gallery will feature metal, forged sculptures that imitate fly tying skills through metal works by artist Matt Hart. Be the first to see our new art exhibit staying for a few weeks in the Wulff Gallery.
10:00 AM – Fly Tying Demos with The Catskill Fly Tyer’s Guild in the Wulff Gallery. Join with Guild members as they carry on the Catskill tradition of fine tyers and demonstrate various patterns throughout the day. Runs till 3:00 PM.
12:00 PM – Decorating Trout-Shaped Cookies with Beamoc Chapter of Trout Unlimited in the Wulff Gallery at CFFCM. Beamoc members will provide trout-shaped cookies, icing and all the necessary tools for you to decorate your own trout. Create brownies, brookies, rainbows or your very own unique design! Till 3:00 PM.
1:00 PM – A Special Cane Rod Talk in the Rodmaker’s Workshop. Learn about the craft of building a cane rod, the Garrison collection and the art of bamboo fly fishing. Till 2:00 PM.
05:30 PM – Catskill Legends Dinner at The Arnold House. This year CFFCM will recognize: Kris Lee, Ed Ostapczuk and Jack Yelle. Reception begins at 5:00 PM (cash bar available); Silent Auction from 5:30 to 7:00 PM; dinner 6:00 PM. The recognition ceremony is immediately following dinner. Cost is $50 for members, $60 for non-members.
The Museum, Gallery and Heritage Craft Workshop will be open for Self-Guided Tours throughout the day.
